And to give you some idea how these things that I do look like here is your chance.
The star will be my solo show in Belgium, the Wondrous world of an introvert as told with 18 new paintings, some of them are my experiments in grissailles painting:
On a recent trip to Tallinn’s Kadriorg Museum I was struck by an unusual 16th C oil painting. The canvas has been painted in a flat grey tone with strange pink, green and yellow highlights to define the figures. As soon as I was home I covered a few canvasses in a grey middle tone and then coaxed my figures to life by adding eerie glowing highlights with a very dry brush.
But first at next week’s London Artist Book Fair both Kaleid and The London Group have included several of my work in their presentation.
Then, from the first week of October, my book Notes of an incomplete journey will be on view in the Vogel/ Bird exhibition at the Meermanno Museum.

De verwondering van een binnenvetter
De recente schilderijen van Marcelle Hanselaar zijn het resultaat van een dynamisch zoeken naar een evenwicht tussen maatschappelijke thema’s, narratieve beelden en compositorische vernieuwing. Hanselaar vecht met de behoefte om uiting te geven aan weerbarstige gevoelens en tegenstrijdige gedachtes die vaak vanwege twijfel, onzekerheid, lafheid of schaamte verborgen gehouden worden. Met deze reeks nieuwe doeken geeft ze een beeld van de twee werelden waarin ze leeft: de publieke wereld en die van de verborgen afzondering waarbinnen ze haar werk maakt. Het resultaat is een absurd theater met ruimte voor zowel herkenbare onderwerpen en voorwerpen eigen aan Hanselaars oeuvre als fijne verwijzingen naar de Arabische revoluties of Afrikaanse kindsoldaten.
