White collar black man , 2013, 40 x 40 cm, etching / chine-collé, grey Korean paper
V.E. 30
After last years hectic exhibition program I am creative wise flat-lining, a good time to read, to wander around and perhaps discover things and play with bits and pieces in my studio just for fun. That kind of aimless break is really important.
The above does not mean that nothing is happening of course.
First I got a print, We’re all bleeding 9 in this year’s RA Summer show, and soon my prizewinning print White Collar Black Man which was acquired by the V&A Print collection will be included in their exhibition Facing History: Contemporary Portraiture.
In the meantime the newly opened Whitworth Art Gallery has accepted a gift of 10 of my prints for their wonderful collection, something which had been brewing for awhile now.
And last but least Absence & Presence a printmaking response to the bombing of Al Mutanabbi street an inspiring project started by the bookseller and poet Beau Beausoleil is touring in the US.
Curiously enough I made a tiny edition of an artist book using some text from the Book of lists by the 10th C Bagdad bookseller Ibn al Nadim, a contemporary of the poet al Mutanabbi.
My book will hopefully be outed soon, watch this space.
