The Civilisers, 2014, oil on canvas, 96 x 122 cm
My favourite season has started and I am bubbling with energy and ideas.
Lots of things are happening: inspired by a 17 C grisailles painting I have been experimenting with grey grounds myself, the result are strange, ghostlike paintings which are really intriguing, a selection of them will be included in my forthcoming show Open Secrets at the Millennium in St Ives.
And although this is going to be a time of predominantly painting I will be showing some prints too.
First of all the International Print Biennale in Newcastle has selected a set of an ongoing variation in print ideas of etching my White collar black man, really chuffed about that.
Also will be showing my prints with Julian Page at the excellent London Original Print Fair.
Some plans for this summer; Monica & Chris of the Printroom came to my studio today to select work for their show about the Uncanny and the writer Aickman, whose work I previously did not know but whose stories I discovered are right up my street.
And the London Group, as part of their ongoing centenary activity will be presenting a show of their previous and present members at Southampton City Gallery.
