Notes from an incomplete journey, Travels behind the net curtain, 2005-2013, unique copy
The book contains five etchings, La Petite Mort 10, 6, 7, 8, 14 and five pages with text. Handwritten endpapers, book size 34 x 40 cm. Black linen cover with net curtain circle, chopstick closure. Hand printed by the artist and binding by Clare Bryan. The texts are quotes from several 17th and 18th Century travel books which I inherited from my father who was an antiquarian bookseller in The Hague. Although the texts may appear fanciful today they are factual descriptions. Conversely the images, even though they seem implausible, do depict our essential reality. Acquired in 2014 by the Meermanno Museum, Huis van het boek, The Hague, The Netherlands |
