Snow White, 2017, oil on canvas
100 x 80 cm
It takes me around18 months to create a substantial body of paintings for a solo show and during that time my world operates in an overriding visual mode.
After selecting the work and a title for my exhibition I mostly like to write a short explanatory or introductory text, this time however I drew a total blank.
Relief came in the form of seeing Jasper Johns witty piece The Critic Sees, in which he replaced the eyes behind a pair of eyeglass frames with talking mouths.
Seeing and talking are too often equated.
But this reminded me, let’s just use our eyes, let’s really look.
Thank you, looking very much forward to welcome you,
Marcelle
